Columbia University School of Engineering, Columbia Video Network
Executive Director of CVN, Associate Dean for Online Learning
Columbia Video Network (CVN) is the online program of Columbia University's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. Our degrees are indistinguishable from those given to students studying on-campus at Columbia University. Our goal is to empower our online engineering students to become tomorrow's technology leaders. Toward this end, we foster excellence in teaching and participate in world-class research with the goal of promoting preeminence at the cutting edge.
Online Degree Programs
Under my leadership, Columbia Engineering Online climbed to the top of the US News and World Report ranking and has maintained that #1 spot for the past several years. This was achieved by providing excellent student support and services, offering hundreds of courses per year for remote students, and continuing to enhance and improve the approach of offering both live and pre-recorded classes to distance learners. Making creative use of abandoned closets and storage rooms, we built and maintained three studios on site for the production (recording and editing) of pre-recorded classes, including 1 large light board studio and 2 green screen studios.
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)
I was responsible for the partnership strategy and relationships with EdX and Coursera. During my tenure, Columbia Engineering grew its MOOC portfolio on EDx from one certificate in Data Science to Micro Masters programs in Artificial Intelligence and Business Analytics, each consisting of four courses per program. We also created an extremely popular Construction Management certificate on Coursera.
Bootcamps & Executive Education
Due to the changing landscape of higher education and the need to diversify our portfolio, CVN entered into two new partnerships with education providers under my leadership. We launched a series of Bootcamps with Trilogy Education Group, through a process that involved intensive vetting of curriculum, instructors, and contract negotiations and approvals. We also moved into online executive education with Emeritus Management Group to add to a new dimension to our online course offerings.
